FIRU, the Friends of Israel Rugby Union, supports and fundraises on behalf of the Israel Rugby Union, raising essential money to support the growth of rugby as a competitive sport in Israel and ensure the participation of the Israel Rugby team in International leagues and sporting events.
This is a long term initiative starting with community grassroots activity to sponsoring player growth via International training partnerships and ensuring the union has the equipment and funds necessary to successfully grow Rugby in Israel into a National team sport.
The Rugby Union Long Term Goals:
- Establish Rugby as a Leading Team Sport in Israel
- Compete for Top Ranks in International Championships
- Establish The Israeli Rugby Academy for Excellence
- Represent Israel in the 2028 International Olympics
BUILDING ROOTS WITH ISRAEL VIA A LOVE OF RUGBY
At FIRU we aim to promote 2 intertwined aspects of promoting the growth of Rugby in Israel, starting with grassroots community awareness on a country-wide scale to supporting a high-performance program and the national teams.
The Rugby Community in Israel is constantly growing with thousands of spectators attending and supporting the national team in hosted International games. You can now take part and contribute to the growth and the success of the Game of Rugby in Israel.
DEVELOPING GRASS-ROOTS RUGBY
A key target of Rugby Israel is to enhance grass-roots exposure. We believe every child should have the opportunity to feel the game of rugby and benefit from the core values it teaches. Our development program includes introduction to rugby in schools, supporting clubs and regional and national junior’s tournaments.
HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Israel’s High Performance program is an academy for elite players to meet and train 3-4 times a week. Men, women and juniors take part in this intensive program run by Head Coach and Technical Director Kevin Musikanth together with a growing team of experts including many former & foreign professionals.
SOLIDARITY FUND
This fund is set up to support players who are less fortunate financially and need assistance so they can play rugby. Clubs are often faced with kids who can’t afford the monthly club fee and the clubs will wave these fees for the kids to be able to join the club. Or aspiring players who cannot afford travel fees.
EVENTS
FIRU fundraisers and events support the needs of the Israeli Rugby Team by gathering funds and supporting the Rugby Union ideology and community awareness projects.
